Big Red or Red Barn

Big Red is a red barn in amist a beautiful field of flowers. I love to go out to the country and take pictures of barns, wheather they are red barns, purple barns, banrs falling down; but most importantly is to paint Big Red. I see a new barn and just love to look at where it was placed and what it was or is used for and how it just makes a beautiful landscape painting. Do you have pictures of barns? I'd love to see them!

My Grandfather's Ride

Maybe it is a right of passage or just something we all have to do when we are young. Maybe it is just in our nature to have fun. My Grandfathers car was one I really enjoyed to drive. Take it out late at night and drive really fast across bridges, pick up friends and just drive. We feel invincible when we are young. Do you have a time your remember? Contact Daniel.

Childhood Memories

Childhood memories I am most fond of are when we went to the old farm. I remember an old red barn that had was aged and falling down that had once been painted white. It was a very pretty sight and I recently found a picture of what reminded me of that barn. Do you have a fond place you remember as a child? Leave a comment or send me a picture. I would love to paint it!

Fountain Square

Foutain Square is a great place to visit in Kentucky. If you are ever there, be sure to take some time to sit and relax at the park. My wife is from Bowling Green, KY and this is one of her favorite spots to relax. Do you have a comfy spot to sit? Let me paint it for you!

Paint it White

Daily Paintworks has a new challenge: Paint it White.

Using either this photo or a photo or still life of your choice, create a painting that is mostly white. You can make your forms interesting and believable by using various tints of warm and cool whites, and by creating texture with the way you apply the paint. You can use other values; just make sure that light (nearly white) is dominant.
...

I thought to just represent the colors and shape and provide the main 6 people that I saw within. I really like Daily Paintings as it allows the freedom to paint loose and try a number of things. I hope you enjoy it.

Sunday Afternoon

Have you ever wanted to take a trip out to the country, like you remember when you were a kid? Go out far and bring a picnic with the family? I remember these days and they were very special. It seems we get so wrapped up in our lives and our worries about our lives that we tend to not get away once a week to relax and get back to yourself. Life and stress seem to change us and it is very important to take one day for a road trip or even if you cannot get out to relax and spend some quality time with the family without electronics.

This painting reminds me of the days my family used to take to the country.

Piano Concert

Sometimes choosing a subject matter, such as a piano concert, can be difficult for an artist. It doesn't have to be. It is best to not worry so much about the subject matter, like the keys of a piano. It is all about the creation and flow of a piece and getting a nice contract and color than worrying so much about what to create. It is time to draw on the wisdom of other artists and come to the realization that it is not what you paint, draw or create, but the overall process. My daughter has a piano concert coming up and this is what I created as a cover for her program. Why not make it personal and special? She is worth it.

Piece is available for purchase on Daily Paintworks.

Observations While Taking Down an Art Show

Art can hang at a show for a month undisturbed.  People can walk by it everyday and never see it.  A show that hangs for 30 days will probably go unnoticed for 28 days.  Only 2 days out of 30 will someone notice the artwork.  Have you guessed which days?  Okay, I'll tell you.....wait for it.....wait for it.....Monday and Tuesday.  Ha, ha, just a joke.  The 2 days your artwork will get the most notice are the day you put it up and the day you take it down.  To add insult to injury, the most notice it will get is when it is gone.  People will say to themselves, "Hey, where did those great paintings go?" or "I really liked the one that was right there", as they point to the empty wall.  Now this part I don't understand.  They will not call you.  They  have your card, they could even ask the show organizers for your contact info., but they don't.  No need to wait for it.  On to the next show..............

Painting in the Park

I have been trying to think up ways to take my art to the people.  Another artist had shared with me his experience of painting in parks and even a beach in Italy where he met his wife, while painting.  He told me people would come up and ask what I was doing and basically a crowd would form around me.  Ha, I say.  I did not cause a riot or get bombarded with people clamoring to get to me.  I actually had one child come over to see my watercolors since she had painted with those in school.  I had a nice conversation with her and her nanny.

However, I did enjoy painting in the park and getting out of the studio.  Taking my art to the people, not so much.  Maybe I picked the wrong park.

Any ideas on where I can paint next?

Art Show Observations

My recent art show has come and gone.  The paintings still hang on the walls of the Arts Center, but for all intents and purposes the show is over.  Months of planning and painting come down to one night of people milling around drinking and eating.  A show is considered a success if you have lots of people, a bar, and food.

It is interesting to watch people at an art show.  They of course get a drink first and then walk around kind of looking at art.  Kind of looking at the art.  It is almost like they don't want anyone to know they are looking at the art.  It is like they don't want to be caught looking at it.

Go to an art show sometime and see what I mean.  Of course, get a drink first.

An Abstract Cityscape Artist in Mississippi

Being an abstract artist is difficult enough anywhere you are located, but being an abstract cityscape artist in Mississippi raises the level of difficulty from a 5.0 to a 10.0.

I am not against Southern landscapes and fruit bowl still lifes. I have done my share of both.

I took on abstract cityscapes as my focus because I found it to be a unique way to express my thoughts on society and city life. I have found my voice through cityscapes.
